1 Corinthians 12:27 – Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
An important part of The River is service to our neighbors and community. Members are regularly polled to find out what type of hands-on service projects they would like to do, the group discusses the ideas, and the leadership works to make their choices happen.
Two of the projects this year were very hands-on. The first project took place on Saturday, May 9, 2015. We did yard work for an elderly member of the congregation at Mountain View, and purchased and planted a special tree in honor of her late husband. The River was joined by members of the Joy Sunday School class, Pastor David Fugatt, and his wife, Heather. Beverly and JC Anderson donated mulch for the garden beds.
Our second project kicked off on Sunday, May 10, 2015. Members of the River plus Lewis Ohle along with Beverly and JC Anderson filled containers, wading pools and feed bags full of dirt which were then planted with a variety of garden vegetables. The River cared for and harvested the crops throughout the summer. The vegetables were delivered by River members to a family in the South Knoxville community. While the summer storms ended the harvest sooner than we hoped, we plan to do the garden again next season.
