When we struggle and it all goes wrong, Only You can make it right, So we say Oh oh oh oh oh … we’re learning to be the light … Whoa, whoa … we’re learning to be the light! ~ Newworldson

Mountain View United Methodist Church has two active youth programs we’d like to share with you.

The first is our new Youth Sunday School. We meet every Sunday morning at 10:45 a.m. in the youth room. The class is open to all youth in grades 5-12.  We hope you’ll join us as we learn to be the light and get our glow on!

Our second program is The River.  The River meets alternating Sundays, currently from 4-6 p.m., although we’ll be switching up to 3-5 p.m. beginning in October.

The River is open to all middle and high school age youth regardless of denomination or religious beliefs. Through the program. we guide participants through using their favorite art forms as a way to interpret and communicate. It’s also a program that teaches them how to develop and use a strong but positive “voice”, both in their individual projects and in bettering their communities through social action such as community service projects of their own group or individual choosing, and through exhibition of their art projects at appropriate events and venues.

Whether they like drawing, painting, or crafting, or they’re more into music, dance, acting, storytelling or story writing, or photography/videography, this program is something we’re sure they’ll enjoy. They’ll find plenty of opportunities to be creative. They can make a music, dance, or spoken word video, learn or improve existing art skills, publish a book or collection of poetry or stories, or even organize their own play or musical performance. They have opportunities to collaborate with other members, or to work individually at their own discretion. We provide them with a topic and subject matter and then encourage them to find their “voice”. We will also work to find qualified mentors when a project is beyond our own scope of knowledge.

We provide a light snack and most materials needed to complete projects, so advance notice of new or visiting participants is always appreciated. Students who prefer music, photography, or videography should plan to bring their own instruments or equipment.
